The AQ System:  Exploring the Tipping Point of the lllusion of Comparisons

Thursday, December 1st, 7:00 pm eastern

Do you find yourself constantly tailoring what you do, think, and say according to how you think other people will react?  Join Kim in a conversation about how the Illusion of Comparisons shows up in our daily lives -- how external drivers keep us playing small, and how personalization and busyness rob us of our greatness.  Together, we'll explore situations that give us clues when we or a client are operating under this form of scarcity, and discuss questions and coaching approaches that can be utilized to unearth the Illusion of Comparisons in our lives and the people we work with.

The Elders of Our Times

In an earlier post, I mentioned I visited Muir Woods, near San Francisco, when I was out in California.  This place is AMAZING.  Muir Woods is a National Monument, one of the last stands of old-growth redwood forest on Earth.

This is my good friend and AQ Pioneer, Carol Zimmerman.  Carol knows what a tree lover I am. She orchestrated the whole trip and it was perfect. You can't even see the tree's full size in this picture!

Tree_with_landmark_rock_1This picture gives you an idea of just how big this tree is!  It is truly awe-inspiring to be among these gentle giants!

The trees are so tall and the light so sporadic, that it's like looking through the stained glass of a cathedral.

Imagine yourself standing on this path, looking up at the sky!

By 1900 this forest along Redwood Creek was one of the last uncut strands of ancient redwoods -

spared because it was difficult to reach.  Local businessman William Kent and his wife Elizabeth acted to protect the redwoods, buying land in the valley in 1905.  To protect the forest more permanently, the Kents donated 295 acres of redwoods to the Federal Government.  In 1908 President Roosevelt proclaimed Muir Woods a national monument and the Kent's requested it be named after conservationist John Muir.

As I was walking through the forest, it struck me that if it weren't for the foresight of that amazing couple, I wouldn't be enjoying the spectacle of Muir Woods.  The Kent's did what they could do, acting authentically on something that mattered to them, and it has benefited millions of people over the years.

Another amazing example of Abundance in Action.

Confessions of a Delinquent Blogger

MedOk, so you haven't heard from me in about a week.  I've had a good excuse, really!  In the past two weeks, I've been out in California, hung out in a primeval forest, attended 3 conferences, given 3 presentations, and oh yeah, by the way, mailed off my manuscript for my first book.  Whew!  I get even more tired just thinking about all that work.

But it really hasn't been work. Okay, maybe spending 3 hours finishing up the 7 page glossary for the book was work, but the rest . . . well, it was pure pleasure.  I thought I'd bring you up to speed on the last couple of weeks:

On the 8th, I headed to California for the ICF (International Coach Federation) conference.  I was really looking forward to connecting with all my coaching buddies.  Here are some of the great people I caught up with:

  • Carol Zimmerman from Multiple Hats Mastery (Carol also does Human Design)
  • Garry Schleifer from Choice Magazine (and so much more!)
  • Stephen Fairley (he's got it goin' on!)
  • Kimberly Fulcher (Kim just published her first book "Remodel Your Reality")
  • Donna Steinhorn (Donna is a coaching dynamo)
  • Ruth Ann Harnisch (leader of the Coach 100 Free program)
  • Andy Wibbels (Andy has a book on blogging coming out in April)
  • Stever Robbins (need some traction for your business?)
  • Shari Horne (she's doing the redesign of my website and blog)
  • and so many more!

My friend, Kimberly Fulcher, threw an amazing shindig that Friday night at her house.  Not only is she the hostess with the mostess, that woman is a force of nature!  She can work a room, and she does it with beauty, grace, and sincerity.

I also got a chance to hang out with my editor, David, from Wiley at their booth at ICF.  That's when David told me the book is coming out a month earlier than originally scheduled - in April!  We discussed book cover designs, followup book plans, and Oprah.  David has a great vision, and he believes in my work.  I'm lucky to have him on my team.

On Saturday the 12th, I flew from San Jose to L.A. for the BNI and Referral Institute conferences.  I attended the BNI gala Saturday night with all the BNI directors worldwide and it was fabulous.  Got to hang out with my good buddies Mike Garrison (VP of Referral Institute) and Eddie Esposito (Dir. of Training and Dev. for Referral Institute).  Said hello to Dr. Ivan Misner, founder and CEO of BNI.  You'll be hearing lots more about The Referral Institute in the next year.

On Sunday I attended The Referral Institute conference.  They are experiencing tremendous growth!  In the afternoon, I spoke on Directive coaching, which is a hybrid of coaching, consulting, and training.  I also gave a sneak peek of the concepts in my new book and the room was buzzing with pre-orders and requests to hear more.  Everywhere I go, people are intrigued by abundance, scarcity and greatness.

I also spent an amazing day at Muir Woods and I'll share that in another post.

Great to be back!

Quote of the Week

"It's done!"

Kim George

FreedomYes, it's true!  The writing of "Coaching Into Greatness: 4 Steps to Success in Business and Life" is officially complete.  I mailed off the manuscript yesterday - all 364 pages x 2 to Wiley & Sons.

What an experience it has been!  As I wrote each chapter on a particular Illusion, I found that Illusion surfacing in my life - as if I needed something to write about!

To be honest, I went through some ups and downs.  One day I'd be writing and think "this is really something powerful" and the next day fear would creep in and I would think to myself, "what if I'm the only one that thinks this is great and everybody else thinks it sucks?"  How interesting once again to see the interplay of abundance and scarcity in my own life.

Please take a moment to pause and celebrate with me at the completion of my first book.  It will be out in April.  Stay tuned for pre-order details and bonuses.

And thanks for being along for the ride.

The Engine of Not Enough

If you are going to doubt something, doubt your limits."

Don Ward

TallshadowWe never seem to have a scarcity of doubts, do we?  We doubt our greatness, our abilities, our intelligence, our future, and each other.

Why do we find it so easy to doubt?  At it's root, this is an inherent form of scarcity, and a classic sign of the Illusion of Not Enough - when we don't trust who we are.

What keeps us from trusting who we are?  What makes us doubt that we are already great?  These are powerful questions.

And yet, perhaps the most powerful question of all is, as Marianne Williamson says,

Who are you not to be Great?

See You in Cali

I'm taking a break.  Well sort of -- from r&d calls this week, anyway.  That's because I'll be in California to begin pre-promotion for my book - first for the International Coach Federation conference in San Jose, and then on to the BNI Conference and the Referral Institute Conference in Long Beach.  Whew, three conferences in 5 days - that's a record for me!

I'll be meeting with lots of friends, new and old, and also making a presentation at The Referral Institute conference on my upcoming book, Coaching Into Greatness: 4 Steps to Success in Business and Life.

My publisher, Wiley & Sons, will be exhibiting at the ICF conference, so if you're there, stop by the booth and pick up a flyer and say hi.

In the middle of all that, I'm going to visit the Muir Woods.  I can't wait.  This will be the first time I've seen the redwoods up close.  A dream come true for a tree lover like me.  I'll take lots of pictures to share here on the blog.

Have a GREAT weak and I'll see you on our next r&d call on November 17th!

The Next Phase of LIG

Introducing Abundance Intelligence

As the last chapter for the book is being written, it is amazing to look back over the past year and see what has transpired.  This book started out with little more than a list of the Illusions, the belief that we are all born great, and a passionate desire to get published.

GlassThe concept of Living Into Greatness emerged along with my 4 step process for coaching people.  Then my unique definitions of scarcity and abundance were born.  (The ultimate form of scarcity is resisting who you are and the ultimate form of abundance is exercising the freedom to be who you are.)  As I had more and more r&d calls, sharing the Illusions, the idea of conditioned patterns came to me.  Could we actually begin to measure the existence of abundance and scarcity in tangible ways?

The conditioned patterns led to the Abundance Aptitudes - the competencies of a person living who they are.  And then it struck me - what I was actually doing, (quite unknowingly at the time!) was creating a system, a pattern language for Abundance.  For the first time, someone was giving language and tangibility to ambiguious existing for over a century.

That's when the lightbulb went off.  I felt like I had been shot through a cannon!  The bigger vision of this work had been born.  Living Into Greatness is a powerful concept, AND it is only part of the picture.  The bigger idea, the idea of greatest impact and lasting change, is AQ - Abundance Intelligence.  This is my true gift to the world.

And so AQ is the next level of exploration, the next book, the next training program, the next community, the next everything.

Will you join me?
