Momentum

Winter freeze got you down?

Feeling a little stuck?  A little tired?

Check out this inspirational video from a CBS news story.  It's about an autistic boy who's the manager of his high school basketball team.  In the last game of his senior year, the coach put him in for the final minutes.  Watch the video to see what happens.

Jason didn't give up.  This isn't just about winning.

It's about winning by being who you are.

Jason could have sat on the sidelines.  He could've believed he wasn't enough.  But he didn't.  He got off the bench and lived into his greatness.

Inspiration is a powerful thing.

But inspiration with momentum is even more powerful.

Where's your inspiration taking you today?

Do you Squidoo?

Logosquidoo3_1Ok, I'll admit it.  I have a new addiction.  Warning, after reading this you may become addicted too!

Have you heard of Seth Godin's new initiative?  It's called Squidoo.  That's right, Squidoo. No typos here.

Squidoo is a free service that allows you to become a Lensmaster.  What do Lensmasters do?  They create Lenses, silly.

But what's a Lens, you ask?

I describe a Lens as a cross between a webpage and a blog.  Essentially it's your view into the world on whatever topic you choose.  When you create a Lens, you are able to display your expertise and interest in an area.  You can add links to your favorite sites, put up text, add pictures, RSS feeds, and lots more.  You can use a Lens to promote a product or service, talk about yourself, share a hobby, or celebrate something you love.

There are already 1,000's of Lenses.  I've created a bunch myself.

The Abundant Networker Lens - applies the principles from my new book to the art of networking

Olympic Abundance

Joey_cheekHave you heard of Joey Cheek?  He just won a gold medal in speedskating at the Winter Olympics.

I love stories like his.  They're so powerful, so rare in occurrence, but so abundant in spirit.

So he won a medal, good for him, you say.  What's the big deal?  They're giving out tons of medals at the games.

The difference with this story is what Joey Cheek is doing with his victory.  He's not just taking a gold medal home.  He's donating his $25,000 gold medal bonus from the United States Olympic committee to help refugees in Chad through the Right to Play organization.

This is Abundance Intelligence (AQ) in Action because Joey is giving back in a huge way.  But there's more - Joey's vision to give his bonus to a great cause started way before he hit Torino.  He saw it as a way to add meaning to his life, beyond a single victory.

And he used that meaning as the driving inspiration that led him to victory.  In a recent news conference, he said, ""I think on some level it is empowering to think of someone other than yourself."

Abundance powered his victory.

And I suspect, Abundance will power his life, for a long time to come.

Inner Cathedral

Stained_glassA rock pile ceases to be a rock pile the moment a single man contemplates it, bearing within him the image of a cathedral.

-Antoine de Saint-Exupery

We're so good at limiting and doubting ourselves.  So many of us see our limits before we see our Greatness.  Our self-imposed limits are like that rock pile, stacked high and wide, so palpable we are sure they exist.

And yet, a cathedral exists in us too.

A few weeks ago, I shared the Two Wolves story.  Our reality is what we feed.

And our reality is what we see.  Or don't see.

You're Greatness Capacity is like a cathedral inside you, waiting to be structured, planned, and built.  One of the most striking, breathtaking characteristics of the greatest cathedrals are their stained glass windows.  They let the sunshine in, but they also let their inner brilliance out.  This exact same characteristic is seen in people with Abundance Intelligence.

What does your cathedral look like?

The Knowing

DoorinwallCan problems naturally resolve themselves?

This is a radical thought.  Must we work everything out?  Solve it, wrap it up and put it into a neat little box?

What if today, right now, you could let go of worrying about that one thing that's been plaguing your mind?

What would be possible?  Could you wonder?

Wonder is that lightness of being, that playfulness that allows you to engage with possibility -- not because you need it, but because you're Inquisitive, your Curious.  Both of these qualities are conscious patterns of Abundance.

Some would argue there's no place in our world for wonder anymore.  Too much to do, to achieve. When we navigate with wonder, we capture the nuances and opportunities of life.  This is a tall order with our ever increasing "Bleed to Succeed", "He who dies with the most toys wins" culture.

Does this sound a bit "woo-woo"?  Maybe so, but there's inherent practicality in this message.  When we're so busy needing and pushing and striving, we lose the connection with who we are and the world around us and in us.

This happened to me recently.  I've been crazy busy with the marketing and promotion of my upcoming book Coaching Into Greatness.  So tired  . . . and always more to do, with no end in sight.

Then it struck me yesterday.

In all this rushing around, in my turbo book marketer mode, I'd lost touch with my knowing

You see, I've always had a knowing about this book and the importance of Abundance Intelligence.  It's not about ego.  It's not arrogant.  It's knowing.

I know it's my life's work.

And I know it's big.

I lost touch with that this week in the busyness of doing.

The first step in the Living Into Greatness process is Awareness.  When you have Awareness, you can do anything.  Now that I'm aware of what I've become disconnected to, I can step back, let go, breathe, and wonder.

And my knowing just got stronger.

What's your knowing?

Two Wolves

Wolves_1One evening an old Cherokee told his grandson about a debate that goes on inside people. He said, "My son, the battle is between 2 "wolves" inside us all.

One is Evil. It is anger, envy, jealousy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego.

The other is Good. It is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion and faith."

The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather:  "Which wolf wins?"

The old Cherokee simply replied, "The one you feed."

The author of this little story is unknown.  It was passed onto me by one of my great clients.  What struck me instantly was the parallel to the abundance and scarcity principles in Coaching Into Greatness.

Although I never call scarcity "evil", I do say that it is quite insidious in how this mentality operates just under the surface of so many lives.

It really comes down to where you put your attention and LOVE.  If you love scarcity, it will grow and overwhelm you.  If you love abundance, it will grow and fulfill you (the cup is overflowing, right?)

Where are you focusing your attention and love?

The Aptitudes

New to AQ - Abundance Intelligence?  Here's a quick synopsis for you:

Abundance Intelligence is a form of intelligence that is made up of aptitudes, conscious patterns and beliefs that enable us to do what we CAN do consistently and authentically.

Your AQ is measured by identifying your Abundance Quotient - the prevalence of Abundance Aptitudes in your life.  Your SQ - Scarcity Quotient - is measured by the prevalence of the Illusions in your life.  Illusions are sources of scarcity thinking.

For every Illusion there is an equal and opposing Abundance Aptitude:

Self-Worth:  you are complete, you have more than enouch exactly as you are; conscious patterns: capacity, greatfulness, catalyst

Empathy:  compassionate internal awareness -- the degree to which an individual consciously directs his or her awareness inward; conscious patterns: internal drivers, discernment, effectiveness

Self-Expression:  the ability to consistently give voice to who you are; conscious patterns: receiving, simplicity, flow

Actualization:  consistent and authentic action; conscious patterns: stepping back, curiosity, perseverance

Significance:  knowing who you are and living into that greatness every day, shifting from external expectation to internal realization; conscious patterns: engagement, decisiveness, inquisitiveness

Surrender:  the willingness to let go, allowing life to unfold through us so that we can remember who we are; conscious patterns: personal responsibility, intention, vulnerability

Inquiry: the ability to question your answers consistently; conscious patterns:  willingness, strategic thinking, adventuristic

The Illusions

New to the Illusions of Scarcity?  Here's your handy, dandy quick reference guide.

An Illusion is a layer of conditioning that provides evidence we are living in scarcity.  Each of the 7 Illusions is made up of conditioned patterns and beliefs.  All of the Illusions keep us from doing what we CAN do.

The Illusion of Not Enough: where the belief that you can't trust who you are results in feeling incomplete; conditioned patterns: more, scriptwriting, contingency

The Illusion of Comparisons:  consistently comparing ourselves to the external world to validate our belief of who we are; conditioned patterns: external drivers, personalization, busyness

The Illusion of Struggle:  the cycle of resistance, striving, and complexity that keeps people from doing what they can do; conditioned patterns: resistance, striving, complexity

The Illusion of Time:  focusing on what you don't have instead of what you do have; conditioned patterns:  rushing, attachment, distractibility

The Illusion of Hope:  waiting for other people or events to solve our uneasiness of who we are; conditioned patterns:  expectation, powerlessness, assumption

The Illusion of Control: when a person's happiness depends on re-arranging the world to fit their idea of how things should be; conditioned patterns:  care-taking, role-playing, self-defense

The Illusion of Certainty:  when the need to know an outcome keeps you from acting, making authentic decisions, and doing what you CAN do; conditioned patterns: complacency, tactical thinking, perfectionism
