As I prepared for yesterday's r&d team call, I experienced a surge of insight - which I have been referring to lately as the "creative tsunami".

This is an affectionate term I created to describe what it's like to experience the amazing tidal wave of creativity and ideation that I have been experiencing on a regular basis.

It can be overwhelming at times.

And yet, I am learning how to roll with it, to "surf the tsunami" as my dear friend Garry Schleifer says.

Anyway, during my creative tsunami yesterday, I created 4 new Venn Diagrams in 30 minutes! That's a record!

And I premiered the big picture of these Venn Diagrams on the r&d call last night.

It was unpredictable and fun and amazing all wrapped into one!

Last night, we had a fabulous and inspiring call exploring the 4th Guiding Principle of Abundance Intelligence:

All is Well, Especially in Difficulty

We discussed new and powerful definitions for two concepts that society often views at opposing ends -- Opportunity and Difficulty. We found the difficulty in opportunity and the opportunity in difficulty.

We explored the concept of Courageous Abundance -- possessing the courage to choose your greatness over your fear in the midst of difficulty.

And we connected this principle to another Abundance Intelligence® Guiding Principle:

What is Meant For You Can't Be Lost

When we show up as who we are, doing what we CAN do, finding the thread of purpose and the growing edge of opportunity -- even in events and things we can't understand or are painful or uncertain . . .

What is Meant For Us Can't Be Lost

It reminds me of another conversation I had with my friend, Eric Palmaer, yesterday. Eric writes amazing poetry. In one of his poems, he wrote about learning to say thank you to fear.

When is the last time you said thank you to difficulty?

Perhaps that very act turns the experience into an opportunity.

So many of you have been asking me what I think of the phenomena around the movie The Secret. Since being featured on Oprah, it seems the whole world is talking about the Law of Attraction (LOA). Here’s what I think:

Any time we have the opportunity to raise the collective consciousness of the world, it’s a good thing.

Sure, there’s a backlash about LOA already. You’ve gotta’ expect this. People seem to automatically distrust things that are “new”, that can’t be seen with the eyes or heard or felt in a tangible way.

For human beings, it seems so much easier to doubt our limits than believe in our greatness.

It’s the same with The Secret. I liked the movie.

And it left me wanting more.

More practical, tangible tools. More how-to’s. More than just “here’s how you visualize that Ferrari you want and attract it into your life.” I couldn’t help thinking about the Illusion of Hope.

Hope is the dark side of positive thinking when it keeps us waiting and putting off what we can do today. Hope is a source of scarcity when we are passive, disengaged from who we are and the world around us.

And that’s exactly why I wrote Coaching Into Greatness, and created the concept of Abundance Intelligence® . Because people want more than just a feel good. They want a pathway, a process, a method that they can use right now, TODAY.

At the end of the day, what good is a warm, fuzzy feeling unless it helps us be and live who we are?

This week I had the great pleasure of speaking at the New York City Midtown Coaching Center.  The title of my talk -- Coaching Into Greatness:  Introducing Your Clients to Abundance Intelligence.

The President, Craig Jennings, and the members of the Coaching Center were a wonderful, inspiring audience.  We talked about the concept of potential as a hidden form of scarcity, explored the 7 Illusions, and delved into how coaches bring out the Greatness in their clients.

As some of my readers know, I am the Pioneer Coach for the Social Capital & Networking community where I lead classes with Dr. Ivan Misner of BNI and Soni Pitts, my assistant community coach. This past week I led a Networking  Fearbuster call on the concept of Abundant Networking.

In this call, I explored how the 7 illusions of scarcity from my upcoming book parallel common fears people have with networking.  Here's an example:

"I don't have anything interesting to say."  This is a great example of someone who is stuck in the Illusion of Not Enough.  Have you ever had this thought run around in your mind before a networking event?  It points to disconnection with greatness, with who you are.  We fear that who we are isn't enough - smart enough, appealing enough - to engage others in conversation.  It's as if we need to jump somersaults and speak 10 languages to be compelling enough for people to actually talk to us.

When I discussed this on the call, Dr. Misner chimed in with an excellent suggestion.  If talking about yourself makes you nervous, all the more reason to focus on the other person.  Use who, what, how, and why questions to draw the person out.  Actively listen with curiosity and interest.  Be interested and in doing so, you will be interesting.

But of course, you already know, deep down inside that you are interesting. It's a matter of getting out there and doing what you CAN do, and being yourself in the process.

I'm taking a break.  Well sort of -- from r&d calls this week, anyway.  That's because I'll be in California to begin pre-promotion for my book - first for the International Coach Federation conference in San Jose, and then on to the BNI Conference and the Referral Institute Conference in Long Beach.  Whew, three conferences in 5 days - that's a record for me!

I'll be meeting with lots of friends, new and old, and also making a presentation at The Referral Institute conference on my upcoming book, Coaching Into Greatness: 4 Steps to Success in Business and Life.

My publisher, Wiley & Sons, will be exhibiting at the ICF conference, so if you're there, stop by the booth and pick up a flyer and say hi.

In the middle of all that, I'm going to visit the Muir Woods.  I can't wait.  This will be the first time I've seen the redwoods up close.  A dream come true for a tree lover like me.  I'll take lots of pictures to share here on the blog.
